Role Playing for Personal Trainers #1
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
Personal trainers are typically “thrown to the wolves” when it comes to starting their career. They just finish a personal training certification or course and start working at a club … but have little to no experience speaking with clients, dealing with issues outside of traditional exercise (i.e., health concerns, injuries, personality conflicts), answering personal questions or asking for the sale (and the sales skills required to be successful). Role playing for personal trainers, as much as it may seem scary or make us feel uncomfortable, is an incredibly helpful tool to prepare for the interactions you have with clients throughout the day.
In this week’s episode Pharoah Kafele (www.puravidaclub.com) and Andrea Oh (www.todaysfitnesstrainer.com) actually get on the “hot seat” and role play personal training scenarios that prepare us for real life interactions with clients who may be looking for answers. These two trainers tackle the following questions that were sent to them on Facebook:
- How do I continually build strength while maintaining flexibility? As I am getting older this is becoming more and more important.
- Bottom line … is it calories in versus calories out for maintenance or fat loss? There are so many different opinions out there and I don’t know
- Will heavy weights and low repetitions make me bulky? I like intense workouts but I want to maintain a feminine physique.
